Senator McPhedran

Senator McPhedran was able to take a moment between meetings not only to host us but also bringing the VOW delegation  breakfast croissants and muffins. She invited us to use her suite for our meeting with Katrina and Agnieszka, even though she couldn't be there. I didn't get a chance to speak to her but we held that banner together, and, well, her work in  the Red Chamber is remarkable! Whales and dolphins  are grateful too!

She has done a lot. She is a founding board member of the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders that focus on peace building and women's rights, including Afghan Women's Organization, Canadian Council of Muslim Women, Women for Women South Sudan and  Canadian Voice of Women for Peace. Agnieszka Fal-Dutra  Santos and Katrina Leclerc spoke to us here about GNWP as did Katrina Leclerc.

This work is another side of the activism that I experienced in India - with a sophistication that widens the chasm and at the same time jumps right over it. Remarkable.

I found much of what was written on the website here moving.  The four components of the program  i.e. leadership, literacy, peacebuilding and economic empowerment. I bridge a generation where, similar to the experiences of women in other parts of the globe, "young women were often subject to double marginalization – as women, and as young people. In many societies and families, they are the last to eat, to speak, to receive an education." Thank you Katrina and Agnieszka!!! I look forward to new events and activity on your website!

Oh, and Senator McPhedran. Thank you so much. I did mention the Bill concerning the captivity of whales and dolphins.  You said it would be difficult. It gives me great hope that it is happening. The liberals and the ndp passed it and you won't have to deal with that bill again in the senate. hurrah.    If we can recognize the 'rights' of whales and dolphins, we can hold the oil companies and arms dealers accountable and answer to the 'missing international crime of our time" - Climate Ecocide.

Senator McPhedran, can you amplify Polly Higgins calls for criminal law of ecocide to impose a legal duty on governments to protect the public from dangerous industrial practices?

And finally, here is some artwork  by the Lower East Side Girl's Club, "Being the Change we want to Sea".
