...and just a little bit of MOMA

Many paintings here are about and by women. In my lifetime, things have changed. Here is a painting by Faith Ringgold who was born in 1930 in Harlem during the 'Harlem Renaissance. Her reflection upon her college education ".... there was nothing about African American art or African art. Nothing. Nothing. No-thing. Not even the fact that Picasso was inspired by African art."

Have you heard of the Gorilla Girls?  This is a little bit of feminist throwback information. The Gorilla girls were masked feminists who set out to shame the art world for its underrepresentation of women artists.  An article, written in 1971,  by Linda Nochlin  "Why have there been no great women artists?  might be a good place to start in order to fully appreciate the Gorilla Girls. In a 2012 interview, they revealed that they are working on a weapon - an estrogen bomb....If you drop it, the men will drop their guns and start hugging each other. They'll say,'Why don't we clean this place up?
